In retrospect I realize that I have taken the wrong approach to Proposition 8. Proposition 8 is not about whether homosexuality is right or wrong. I believe it is wrong, I will teach my children it is wrong and I will tell people that I meet that it is wrong. But that is not what Proposition 8 is about. Proposition 8 is about protecting my rights and freedoms as a citizen of the United States. It’s about not allowing 4 judges to overturn the voice of the people. It’s about not allowing a small number of people to dictate what will happen to the majority of the people. It’s about not allowing the decisions of today ruin the future of my children and generations to come. <\/p>\n
In Webster’s New World Dictionary of American English Third College Edition Copyright 1985 it reads: mar?riage (mar’ ij) n. 1. The state of being married; relation between husband and wife; married life; wedlock; matrimony And mar?ried (mar’ ed) adj. 1. living together as husband and wife; joined in wedlock. <\/p>\n
That is what this proposition is all about. Not changing the definition of marriage. It has been a definition for hundreds, dare I say thousands, of years. It’s not correct or moral that people want change it’s definition so easily. We don’t take other issues so lightly; murder, theft, lying… We wouldn’t even think of changing the definition of those words. Yet we are taking the sanctity of marriage so lightly. Ready to change the definition without much thought. Let’s make sure we take the time to think of what this will do to society. Don’t take this so lightly. Research it. Understand it. Then vote yes on it, that is the only moral and right thing to do. <\/p>\n
