Out of surgery; In room

Milo was done with surgery at 1pm. The doctor started about 9am. So it was a 4 hour surgery. We got to see Milo just a few minutes before 2pm.

This is what Milo looked like when we first saw him. You can see his bloody nose. They stuck the tube up his left nostril so that one is bleeding the most.

He is swollen. Really swollen. He spent most of his time in the post op room oozing blood from both face orifices. Puking blood is a new thing for Milo. He’s never done that before.

No more oxygen mask. You can really see the swelling now.

It’s normal though. Since they were doing all of the work in his mouth, they could not intubate him through his mouth. They had to do it through his nose. That causes bleeding in the nose which makes its way down his throat and into his stomach for all of the surgery. The stomach does not want all that blood in it. So when the body wakes up, the body wrenches it out.

The ice packs help with the swelling and the pain.

Fun times in the post op room.

His semi private room (he has no roommate right now) is quiet, mostly dark, and less exciting than the post op room. All good things.

Getting all hooked up in his room. We will be here for one night for sure. Maybe two. All depends on the level of pain Milo is having and his swelling.
