First night over

Normal first night in the hospital. He’s hot. He’s cold. He’s thirsty. He’s nauseated. He’s in pain. Need vitals. Need medication. Need to pee. Roommate needs all these same things too. Wouldn’t change being here for anything else.

I managed a few zzz’s each hour. I feel pretty good this morning. Milo seems to be feeling a bit better too. More awake. More communicative. Pees like a race horse. He had 7 spoonfuls of water this morning. First thing by mouth since 7:45pm on Monday.

The doctor’s resident came by this morning at six am (really???) and took the bloody gauze out of his nostrils. Seriously looked like, and apparently felt like, they were pulling that gauze from his brain; it was so long!! The nostrils weeped a little blood and fluid but all seems fine now. His mouth is still a bloody mess (not cursing for all you Englanders….). He’s not able to swish yet so that will get cleaned out later today or even as late as tomorrow.

Early morning sun on his face. He looks really good with no bloody gauze. Swelling will be the worst on Friday. Then it’s only going to get better from there.

The ice seems to really help him feel comfortable so he has ice on his face constantly.

He stood up this morning. I think that felt good to him. They took off his leg things. The ones that keep the circulation flowing while a person lays in bed. He was super happy about that.

A big shout out/Thank you to my mom! She was fluent in sign language. I picked up on a little bit of it. Scott took a sign language class during his college days. Our kids know how to do the alphabet and we’ve taught them little signs to do when in public; bathroom, yes, no, water, etc. Wow that has been SO helpful. Milo can’t really talk. His jaw is clenched shut and his throat is so dry talking is extremely difficult. We did a series of grunts until that really just wasn’t working. Milo realized he could sign to me and so he has started to do that for the little things. For the more in depth communication he is using pen and paper.

God is good. Milo is recovering well. His doctors and nurses have been fabulous. His stay here has been good so far. No complaints. I have felt so much peace since he went into the operating room. I thank God for advanced medicine, priesthood blessings, and prayers.

He sleeps. I type. My early morning clock can’t help but be awake no matter how little sleep I get in the night. But no worries. This is temporary. I can get sleep anytime.

Oh my goodness!!!!! We fasted on Sunday for Milo and this is the first chance I’ve had to sit down and read the updates. No wonder he was scared and anxious about this surgery. You are so strong Sami! What can I do?

Does he need some “books on tape?” I am happy to oblige. We will keep praying.

What an amazing experience to help him rely on the Lord and grow his testimony. He will have great stories to tell on his mission/to his future wife/ dating/etc.

    We love you Milo!

Love the updates. Milo looks so good. Looks like just a really rough wisdom teeth surgery. but i’m sure it feels much worse. He’s so awesome.
    Love you Milo!

Congratulations Milo!!!!!! I can picture your handsome face once the swelling goes down (I’ve seen a lot of swollen faces in the past few years). Will be thinking of you, wishing you a speedy recovery. What a long journey, it will all be worth it in the end.
