HOME!!

It’s been more than 24 hours since my last post and what a busy 24 hours!!

Milo was given his check lists of to-do’s and we worked diligently all day to get them done. He did really well swallowing and therefore did really well eating. He did really good taking his medication orally and controlling his pain. He even took a walk which included taking the elevator to a different floor and walking around.

Feeling good. His vision was finally clear enough that he watched a show while he waited for Scott to come and take us home.

We got the ok to go home at 4:30pm. Scott and the girls got there at 6pm and we were out of the hospital by 6:30pm. Upon arriving home at 7:20pm the Butt family was here to welcome Milo home and the misery began!

Ready to go but mom insisted on another picture. You can see the joy in Milo’s eyes…

It’s HOT here. I’m sure it’s not that bad compared to people who live in constantly hot climates but we don’t have air conditioning so when the day hits 100 our house hits 85 or more. And there is no getting away from it. So it’s hot, humid (hospital air is dry), and loud (all the fans and 9 little girls playing together). Milo was fairly miserable and had a hard time relaxing. The rest of us had a good time though….

Relaxing at home after his shower.

He had a super good night though and a pretty good day so far. I have to feed him a syringe full of food every half hour. Otherwise he won’t get enough calories. That’s hard. It hurts Milo to swallow. Now he’s also complaining that when he swallows his ear hurts. Ugh. This poor kid needs calories and it’s proving to be difficult to get them in him.

We “brushed” his teeth this morning. That proved to be a fun adventure in and of itself. Ever tried to brush your teeth with your jaw clenched and no feeling or real ability to swallow or spit. Awesome!

But he tries to keep his spirits up. His sisters helped him laugh a bit this morning. He’s watching his new favorite Netflix series, DinoTrux. And his next feeding is in 10 minutes. Fun times here at the Thompson home.

Pray for cooler weather. It will help all of us feel better.

While we were in the hospital Milo’s roommate’s mom and I had some good chats. Milo’s roommate was a boy who is the same age as Milo. They were both in surgery at the same time and came to the room only about 1 hour apart. I appreciate the people I get to meet in the hospital. It helps to remind me that we all are going through our own trials and have different things we have to deal with. But in the end our attitude is what makes the difference between enjoying life and enduring life. This mom had such a positive attitude even though her trials were really hard. I appreciated her perspective.

Attitude is everything. Milo is learning that this week too. Attitude is everything. This sucks what Milo has to do right now. But with a good attitude and a proper perspective, this time will be but a memory of life.

Glad to hear you are doing better. Looks rather miserable to me. Sleep well and keep up the good attitude. You will win in the end. Love you.

So I thought that was you on the right in the picture of Milo with his sisters saying goodbye to the hospital. I was like, “Wow! Sami lost a ton of weight!” And then I realized it was Afton!! LOL.

So proud of Milo. What a trooper. After this, nothing will get him down.

  3. Keep pushing Milo. Us Milo’s are special and the more the better.
