CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Day 1

on August 14, 2009

Tuesday August 4 was the beginning of our fun week. I had already agreed to watch a friends kids for her so we started out the morning just hanging out and playing. Mandi has 4 boys. My friend dropped off 3 boys. Plus my 6 kids and the 2 neighbor girls….we had a houseful for a couple of hours!! But it was fun watching all the kids play together and Milo was in HEAVEN!!

After the boys left we all piled in the car and were off. We picked up Cindy and Joseph and headed to the Oakland Temple. I thought everyone would enjoy that but I also thought it would be a quick trip since the kids would want to go on to the zoo. Nope, we were at the temple for over an hour. The kids LOVED it.

The missionaries in the visitors center were so awesome with the kids and they all enjoyed it very much. After the visitors center we went to the garden on top of the temple. The day was so clear we could see all the bridges of the bay.

After the temple we headed to the Oakland zoo. We got there about 1pm. We had a quick lunch and headed to the kids area.

That was a fun place. The kids played in there for almost 2 hours. It was then that we realized that the zoo closed at 4 and we only had 1 hour to see everything else.

All our little spiders!!

We finally left the zoo at 5pm (all the animals were gone by then). The kids were exhausted but happy!!

We made it home by 6:30pm. We threw together a quick dinner of burritos (the kids were STARVING!!) and then headed to our neighborhood’s national night out party. That was so fun. We ate, played games and enjoyed meeting new people and reconnecting with people we already knew. Mandi and her boys came and had a good time too. We finally got all the kids to bed about 9:30pm. We retired too, it had been a busy day and we had another busy day planned.
