CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

Day 4……&5

on August 18, 2009

Sorry for the delay in my epic re-tell of my adventures with Mandi. I’m continuing to have adventures, but am so far behind you won’t hear about those till next week…..

Friday August 7 was BEACH DAY!! We were all so excited. Well almost everyone. Bradley thought it would be fun to go to the beach but couldn’t see what the big fuss was about. He’d been to Bear Lake before (those were his own words). We decided that since we never really got out of the house till 11 anyway, we’d shoot for 11:30 and see if we could get out on time. It worked! Well almost, we left at 11:35!!

[A big cup cake the boys were “eating” at Google]

But first things first; Mandi thought it would be fun to go see Google. So we got up early and went there first thing. Mandi and her boys were very impressed by the whole thing (I mean, who wouldn’t be??). The kids all got something to drink and a few snacks as we walked around seeing all the “cool” things. After we got home, we got everything packed up and then went and picked up Cindy and Joseph. Our last hurrah before our fun week would be over.

What a gorgeous day at the beach. The kids had a GREAT time. I don’t think any of them were out of the water long enough to eat or drink (unless we made them or you were Afton or Keri).

Mandi’s boys LOVED the beach. Even Bradley said ‘This is way better than the lake’. By the time the day was over, they were all body surfing and swimming and having just a grand time in the water.

[look at that massive tangle of seaweed. Joseph is de man!!]

[Alix loves the sand. She loves to get buried in it and swim in it. She is all about sun and sand]

[Josh LOVED to get sand all over. It was super cute and we called him the sand man]

[Keri was in love with the beach]

[Keri SERIOUSLY loved the sand!!]

[Jaime is my beach lover. She loves the waves and the sand and being in the sun.]

[Swimming in the “safer”, warmer river. The kids would go back and forth between the river and the ocean. They all had such a great time.]

[Afton had such a good time collecting, digging and playing in the river. She was NOT about to go into the ocean!!]

They were very bummed when we told them it was time to go. After changing into something warmer, we walked down to the pier to see the SS Palo Alto that is still sinking at the end of the pier.

[Final group picture. Even Mandi and I made it into this one!!]

We finally loaded in the car and headed for home at 7:30pm. Kinda late but a wonderful day. We had planned to go to pizza after the beach so we could use our free pizza coupons we won at the game. Scott met us there and so we showed up at Round Table at 9pm with 13 people.

[Don’t we all look excited to be there??]

We got 13 free personal pizzas. The total would have been $68. That alone paid for the ball game!! We walked in the door at 10:05pm. I showered my kids first (they aren’t used to staying up that late). They were all asleep by 10:45pm. Then Mandi showered all her kids. The house was finally quiet by 11:30pm.

Saturday was a sad, sad day. Mandi was leaving me. But I guess I was leaving her first. We were invited to a sealing at the temple and we couldn’t find a babysitter, so Scott stayed home and I went. Mandi was packing up but I had to leave before she was ready so I said goodbye to her and left. I cried for the first 20 miles but was able to compose myself before I got to the temple. It was a lovely session and I was glad I was able to attend. Scott and the kids fared VERY well here at home and we enjoyed a nice evening in our home with our kids that night.

So there you have it. The “Mandi coming to California” saga is over. But the memories will last forever. Thank you Mandi for a wonderful week and some GREAT memories.
