Sami's World

CHEAPER BY THE HALF DOZEN

First Anniversary Trip

on December 4, 2013

So, I realize for some people waiting 15 years to go away with your spouse is a long time. For others it might not seem that weird at all, but we finally did it. We finally went away, just Scott and Sami, after 15 years!

It was spurred because we won some tickets to the San Francisco Aquarium. We thought we’d make a day of it but then thought better and decided to make two days out of it. So we left really early one morning and got back late the next day. Our wonderful friends The Dalrymple’s kept an eye on our kids for us. Everyone at home had so much fun they asked us when we were going again! :o)

We went in late August because school hadn’t started yet for the public school kids and so it made it easier to find a family willing to help us out for two days and a night. I’m so glad we went when we did! The calm before the storm…

Enjoy the picture show of our trip. Funny though, I didn’t get one single picture of our hotel. Not that it was spectacular or anything, but it was clean and cozy and close to everything we wanted to do. It was nice for us.

Our trip to the aquarium was fun and I’m glad we’ve seen it, but after going to Monterrey so many times, this was a huge disappointment. Especially for the price, I wouldn’t recommend it! It only took us 45 minutes to do the whole thing and we were stretching it. We read everything and we watched all their little videos. But just being together was fun so we didn’t mind. And it was free for us!

Ghirardelli Square. One of my favorite places to visit. Mostly because they give out free chocolate samples! But also because it smells so good. For the first time I made it more into the shop into the corner where they have this display that shows how they make the chocolate. That was pretty cool to stumble upon after all these visits to that store.

Our one splurge. Dinner that night in S.F. We had decided that we’d share little bits of everything. That way we wouldn’t fill up on just one thing or at one restaurant just to find we wish we would have tried another place. But the Stinking Rose, we both ordered and we both filled up and it was AWESOME!! I highly recommend that place. It was worth the walk and the price!

It took a lot of convincing to get Scott to walk to the S.F. Cable Car Museum. It took an even greater effort to get him to leave! :o) Again, another long walk but totally worth it and so much fun. We spent 2 hours just at the museum. It really was fascinating and we were so glad we went.

These ships were wicked cool. We just walked along the different piers and looked at all the big ships. Learned a lot about them and how they work and just enjoyed taking our time.

This one was for my brother. He loves this place and so we went in so I could tease him a little. We did share a sandwich. Yummy!

We must have covered close to 30 miles over the course of two days. We were walking maniacs and enjoyed every minute of it. We saw lots of “regular” S.F. and lots of touristy parts of S.F. But most of all we enjoyed being together. Doing things on a whim. Not worrying about the needs of our little chillies who were happy at home doing fun things. We even bought them souvenirs in China Town!

It was relaxing and wonderful and just what we needed before what would become one of the hardest months of my life! Up next, September….
